An Ergonomic Approach to Practice and Performance:

You Are Your Instrument! Julie Lyonn Lieberman’s critically acclaimed approach to Playing Healthy…

1. Ergonomic ArtAvoid injury and Protect Your Students:
A sizable percentage of instrumental musicians develop physical problems related to repetitive motion or the incorrect use of muscles, tendons and joints. Science gives us greater insight than ever before into how routines can physically affect the body, and modern music education needs to address ergonomic factors as well as include helpful (and healthful) solutions. This course assesses the ways we can protect players from strain, pain and injury, as well as effective protocol to follow if injury or conditions occur, and how that protocol can be applied immediately to your students. Tools and methodologies focused on posture, correct breathing and muscle balance are covered, as well as an understanding of the learning centers in the brain and how they affect ergonomic muscular performance.
